Diane Lary, aka “The Outpost Artist”, is a native of Michigan. She graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and began research at the University’s Medical Complex. After just two years she was offered a position with a top biomedical corporation located in South Florida. After three years, she transferred south, finally making her home in “Redland” of South Florida. There she has found true happiness living among the natural beauty of her “Jungle Outpost”. In 1997, while working full time, Diane rekindled her love of art and found time to study watercolor techniques by attending plein air watercolor classes at Fairchild Botanical Garden in Coral Gables. Here she was able to capture the true beauty of bright light and vibrant color, which expresses the tropical foliage of Florida.
As hard work typically pays off, Diane retired from corporate life in 2007 and since then has been able to devote more time to her family as well as explore her passion for painting. Working exclusively in watercolor, Diane loves to describe her subject through light, color, and depth. The mixture of foliage and rustic charm is the most intriguing for her. These efforts have permitted Diane to garner numerous awards and accolades for her paintings. She also participates in a number of art festivals every year. Additionally, she is an active member of the Miami Watercolor Society. She held numerous positions including President, 1st VP Exhibitions, 2d VP Workshops, Newsletter Editor, Marketing and Grants. Currently, she is also the 2d VP for the Florida Watercolor Society and is in line to be the President of FWS in 2021 celebrating the 50th anniversary of the society. She is a signature member of the Miami, Florida, San Diego and Northwest Watercolor Societies. Her most recent position includes teaching watercolor classes at Fairchild, the same place where she began her journey of watercolor painting.
