General Info:

Growing up I was always into things and places I should not be. One year my sister and I got a paint by numbers set for Christmas. My life turned around. I finished mine then I finished hers. Everyone would continue to give me paint by numbers sets because I quieted down. I also started drawing cartoons. Bambi was one of my favorites.

At the age of thirteen, I finished a large painting with about 100 or more colors. I saw how one color blended with the color next to it and said, “I can do this without the numbers.” My family then bought me my first tubes of paint and canvases. The rest is history. Painting all night long. Painting at locations. The family would go to visit relatives, I take my paints. In high school, I got my first camera and it replaces the paintbrush for a little while. Finally, I joined an art club.

In 1984 I graduated from Milwaukee Area Tech College with an Associate Degree in Commercial Art. I studied drawing, typography, ad building, and photography. As I was walking out the front door with my diploma, the computers were moving in the back door. So I went back to school and took a class in computer art and I found my medium. What is a medium, you ask? Well, many artists like a certain type of style and paint as they develop their art. Some are great watercolorist, some like acrylics, some like the pen & pencil. The masters worked with oils and tempera paint. These days the camera is often used as a medium. I loved them all but found the computer gave me clean and crisp finished work; so the computer became my medium for several years.

In 1995, after losing my job in Milwaukee, I moved to the Homestead, Florida area to get out of the cold winter, be near family and find a new job in the art field. Now I was told I needed a Desktop Publishing Certificate. I went to Robert Morgan Voc-Tech Institute for the certificate.

After retiring, I decided that I wanted to go back to my first love of painting but I still take pictures and render computer graphics. You can find my work at Art by Cherri Diane on Facebook.
